I have the Waterbox Marine X 60.2 with 2 clownfish so far. They have been there for about 3 weeks. I was planning on purchasing some crabs and a shrimp next. I don't have a wavemaker yet. Should I try to get the wavemaker as soon as possible or can I hold off till I get the coral?

It’s good to have power heads/wave maker or both. Water movement is good for lots of reasons. Clowns like to swim in the current.

You can hold off as long as the return pump isn't super weak. The main benefits of a wavemaker/powerhead outside of corals is that it helps with gas exchange and keeping crud suspended for the filter to suck in. You don't need a very expensive one (however I like to avoid the cheap off brand ones as I have noticed issued with those)

You can hold off until you get coral.

However, it's only beneficial for your tank. Flow helps eliminate dead spots and therefore algae. Higher flow increases circulation helping to mechanically remove detritus from the water column by means of your filtration system. Surface agitation increases gas exchange providing more oxygen in the water.

Your fish don't care as long as their water is good, but your corals will need it.

How old is your tank?
It is brand new. I was cycling it for 2 to 3 weeks and now the fish have been in there for 3 weeks.

Do you think I need to get two wavemakers? I was thinking to get the Ecotech Marine Vortech MP10QD but they are super pricey.

I personally would wait on crabs and snails and any clean up crew. I had a lot of trouble early on with my tank because it was way clean for a clean up crew. They would die off and create spikes.

adding wavemakers will be great, adding flow for detritus removal and oxygen exchange.

Coral id start with beginner corals only. your tanks not mature and youll probably struggle initially. Been there as well.

or you may be a pro and this is just advice for a noob like i was and still consider myself to be.

I would say the fish enjoy some current or wave. My Anthias & Chomis swim in it most of the day. Clown gets out with them and I catch her at night swimming by herself sometimes. I say it gives them exercise and they have fun with current/waves. But they will be ok without

Why not just feed the Cuc?
Genuine question there. My plan is to start with Cuc and coral only in my DT as quarantine and I will obviously have to feed for that

Wavemakers are definitely beneficial for the reasons already listed, but the popular ones can be very pricey. After trying 2 other cheaper Wavemakers, I found this one that is mid-range price and works very well, including with a decent app. I have one in a 90 gallon freshwater currently, but plan to get one for the Waterbox 35.2 AIO I'm getting this weekend. It's also very compact, unlike a couple others I got that were massive and didn't work well.
