Hey guys,
So, my hob skimmer is going out on my sumpless tank and I'm wondering if I even need one. It's a 75g with zoanthids and mostly plating montipora, one clown, yellow tang, leopard wrasse.
Can I just make up the difference by increasing my water change volume slightly? HOB skimmers don't seem to be the most efficient anyway.
Thanks for your opinions!

I'll check out that site Reefing Madness.

Bad Company, I have the same skimmer. It has worked fine for the last few years up until now. I'm not against getting the same one again, but I'm just entertaining the idea of going without one completely. My bio load is pretty low, so that why I think it'll be okay.

It's worked well for me. What happened to your skimmer? I run an algae scrubber, an without a skimmer, my water gets a yellow tint.

Skimmers aren't "necessary"...but they make it much easier to keep high water quality. You could do twice a week water changes but would you want to :-) ? Yes, I know that isn't always necessary...just trying to make a point lol.

I see your point Waters... Lol. I haven't been dosing anything or adding anything to the water other than food. My Sps are holding their colors, they just aren't growing right now which is what I'm kinda going for anything. Being skimmerless won't be permanent, but I'll probably try going without for a couple months. ::fingers crossed::
