I have the Aqua fx barracuda filter. I am changing the sediment, carbons x2 and a di resin filter.

What’s the order in changing these, and do I flush anything before changing a filter?

I called company and they said as long as I don’t change the membrane, I don’t need to flush anything. But I need second opinions.

This is for my ATO

I personally flush each thing, starting from the closest to the input.
So first I put in sediment filter, and rinse. Then carbon, and rinse. Then next carbon, and rinse.

That way you don’t trap particles from the new filters

Do I remove my clean cartilages when flushing the membrane? I’m imagining that I remove all the canisters? Won’t it leak?

The sediment doesn't need to be flushed. The carbon blocks I use say to flush them for 20 minutes minimum to remove carbon dust. This carbon dust could potentially cause the membrane to fail prematurely. Because of that, I flush each carbon block individually before reconnecting the water line to the next stage, hope that makes sense. I also flush new di resin before using the product water. I typically run 2 gallons through each stage then reroute the tube to my ato reservoir.

Every time I change a filter weather it be sediment, carbon, or resin. I turn the knob to flush the membrane for about 5-10min. Any dust from carbon should be flushed before damaging membrane. In addition, it also flushed out any loose contaminants from other sources before they deplete your DI resin. At least that’s how I understood it in the BRS videos from about 4-5 years ago.

This all hinges on, if you have the membrane flush kit Installed.

Thanks.

I ordered the filters, but only the sediment and DI arrived so far. I’m going to change the sediment today, but am I allowed to change the DI before the carbon?

The carbon filter should last the longest (besides membrane), and one of the main purposes is to neutralize the chlorine in your water before it gets to the membrane. Chlorine will damage the membrane.

If you are already running the unit I would switch now. If not I would wait to have a fresh start.

I only flush new carbon blocks disconected from the membrane.
