Hi, I'm currently in the process of building a new setup and I wanted to ask for some opinions on the drain plumbing before I order the parts.
The tank will use Herbie overflow so two drain pipes (per tank). As you can see from the pic below, the sump is not directly under the tank and there's a fair bit of horizontal distance from the overflow to the sump.
I was thinking of placing unions directly under the external overflow box so 2 unions, one for each drain pipe. I've read it's good to have many unions but I've only 2 for the drains and I can't think of where else to put them and for what reason.
I've read things like, 'put them where you might want to remove plumbing in the future' or 'where you'll do maintenance' but I can only guesstimate where that'll be due to the lack of experience.
Will 2 unions per tank be good enough? Where would have placed the unions, how many, and why?
Please ignore the 'Ball valve' in the picture. It's meant to be gate valves and I don't know how that text got in there.
I would like to place the gate valve vertically near the exit like in the picture but may not have enough room for it. If I can't fit it in there, I will be forced to place them horizontally.
