Do multiple 90 degree elbows obstruct flow to drain

I thought it would be different because the return had the power of the pump behind it. Drains only have gravity.

I am a total newb for sumps and plumbing. So I just ask basic questions to help understand more.

The only thing that might favor dual 45 over a single 90 in a drain is the reduced possibility of clogs (which is why drain PVC offers long/short sweep elbows .... which I have used for reef tank drain plumbing in the past), but since a reef tank drain is not handling material amounts of ‘solids’ its largely irrelevant. My approach is alway to use pipe and fittings that best meet my layout requirements.

Also as long as snails and other inhabitants cant get in the pipe gravity will get the job done.

Hello to all!
I just wanted to give an update on this thread concerning multiple 90's plumbed in series and flow restriction.
setup:
3/4 inch return line
1 inch drain pipe equipped with Spears gate valve
Reef Octopus Varios 6 DC (1,720gph) pump (2)

Running both Reef Octopus Varios 6 pumps at their maximum setting there was NO issue
with drainage.
I was able to utilize my gate valve to fine tune the flow!
Although it was a large amount of water, the restriction of flow through the drain was negligible
at best.
So I say "Fear Not" the multiple 90's and happy reefing!

What’s your tank size (volume / dimensions)? What’s your sump size? Curious for comparison.

My total tank volume is 145 gallons. My system is multiple tanks plumbed together. Two low boy frag tanks; 50 gallons a piece. My refugium is a 45 gallon/wide Deep Blue frag tank and my sump is a Simplicity model: 225SS which is 34x15x15. Hope this helps!
