So I start getting sps, can't tell if I need more light some do good other kinda look good but I'm new to this so Im not sure. Lights are Radeion pros. My rock go's up in some spots a little more the 1/2 way up the tank. Lights are 9in above the water. I feel like my tank is ruining good cal 430-440, alk 9.3-9.5, mag is funny thow 1440 only thing I can't tell if there good is my lighting. About to pay someone to just set them up 32g water change weekly. If anymore info needed plz ask I will get it.

Pete

Your corals look okay IMO. Polyps out is always a good sign. Radions are powerful lights.. I don't think you'd want them much lower then 9". Maybe look more towards parameters and nutrients to bring out better colors.

Can you get your hands on a PAR meter? If so, I would keep them under 350 under the radion. You can double that with T5 or MH if you want since there are no bad waves and peaks like the LEDs have, but it is also probably not necessary for most species although most will grow faster with more light.

I do have a par meter. 130 to 160 par around where them coral are, some spots less than 100 on sandbed

Mine were super pale until I let my nitrates come up from super low levels.

When I get home I will post the par lvl for the coral

I guess the question to ask is, what sign signals the need for more light? My guess would be brown corals, high nutrients. Once you keep nutrients up, and stable, and see corals turn brown, turn up the intensity?

They can also brown due to nutrients being too high right? I've never read a solid answer on this stuff TBH. The pros seem to usually say "it depends". I hear recommendations from people that know their stuff that range wildly for the same coral.

Some corals just go brown for no reason and then one day color back up, I’ve always had cyphastra do this on me

Little to no growth, bad color (not really brown), shadowing on the underside (not from a point source) and STN can all be signs of low light.
