Do purple tangs deserve their aggressive reputation

Do purple tangs deserve their aggressive reputation? I've worked out how to suppress this aggressive nature... for now...
I feel the aggression is more set up specific then the individual fish

Mine has gotten pretty large and is by far less aggressive than my powder blue, and chevron. He's bigger than the powder blue and about the same as my chevron. My chevron and PBT both routinely bother other non tangs as well. Nothing crazy, but enough to make their point.

My purple tang hasn't been aggressive at all so far. He did some chasing when i put everybody into QT recently, but that's the most i've seen from him. Of course, he was the last one in and is the largest in the tank so maybe he doesn't have to make his point too often with the others. lol

The little guy is coming from the other side CA to his new house in FL, at least it's eating like a pig!

Is the chevron a juvenile or adult... I know they can turn into nightmares

I used to have a pair of RS PT.
Got them small 2" and they grew up together with their tank mates.
Never ere aggressive at all to each other and to others.
Had them for 5 years when I got rid of them, they had to make space for Black and Gem.
They're a lot happier now I can tell you in a 1200 gallon system.
Hopping one day I can have at least one RS PT back but I doubt it with my current fish stock.

Mine is super aggressive. Only fish really in my frag tank other than a small neon goby. Every time my hand goes in the water he tries to prison shank me. Only broke skin once but definitely makes me flinch like a little girl when he runs up to me and starts fanning and brandishing his weapon...

My first on was bullied for months by my yellow couple and ended up starving in th rock work, that was in a 15o G tank. Current one only has a few standups with the yellows at times but they're all put back in place by my much larger Hippo.

It's unusually for them to be aggressive enough to go for its owner! That's more sohal behaviour
