On my 5’ tank, I have an aquatic life 4 bulb T5 fixture in which I’ve installed two gen 5s (third one on the shelf I I want to add it but not now). My original thought was to supplement the radions due to shading etc but that was when I was going with the gen 4......now with the 5s, I feel like the T5s are not necessary.

So my question(s) Is around the benefit of the T5? Is there a weakness in the G5 that a 2/4 bulb T5 combo can help? I was thinking maybe running just actinic for more pop? Par numbers are fine at 30-40% so no need to help there.

If there is no real need that folks have found for T5s than I’ve got one expensive light hanger.

Thanks for your thoughts!

This depends on so many factors... type of coral kept, amount of colonies (shadow more) vs frags, etc.

You will find many that defiantly want the T5 and many that have no use for them. If you feel that they are unnecessary, then don't use them.

I think most people add t5s to leds for several reasons, which are to reduce shading, increase light intensity, or to lessen the “disco ball effect” of their leds. If you don’t want or need any of these things, there’s not really any reason why you would need to use the t5.
