If you take a clown fish out of its home that it has been in for a year or so and then put him back in a year later will the other fish remember him and will the clown fish remember the other fish?

I got the ok to start an aquarium at work and want to put in my 1" lightning maroon in the office tank. He has a mate in his current tank. (still not getting along all the time though)
Was wondering if I take him out and then once he grows too large for the tank if both fish will remember each other and I will not have to go through the "getting to know each other" phase again. Just curious if anyone has done this before. Also he is a male and if he is away from the female in the tank will this fish turn to female? I will not have any other fish in the tank. Just a few inverts.
(pic is the little guy)

Thanks

If the male is away from the female for any real amount of time, he will begin to transition to a she, and upon re-introduction the two will fight, likely to the death of one of them.

I was afraid of that. Thanks
