Thanks to everyone's help, I found the perfect spot and setup my stand. It's been cycling for about 10 days now and the parameters seem to be coming along just fine. This morning I noticed that one corner of the stand looks to be coming apart. Is this normal settling of a pine stand or is it about to fail? I bought the stand new from the LFS, who said it was rated up to 110g. I only have a 75g on it. I had to shim it up to keep the tank level so I don't know if that caused some stress that shouldn't be on that corner. I attached some pics. You can see where the unpainted wood is now visible on the seams. There is no wood visible on any of the other three corners. Tank is still level. Thanks!

No door is attached to this corner. The corner in question is the back right side of the stand. The side is covered, and the back is fully open.

I would move what I can now . return the stand for a better one or build one IMO

Ugh, I was afraid that was what is happening. This is going to be a long night. Thanks for the input. Any thoughts on whether the shims caused this or just a random bad stand?

No the shims would not cause the problem. A cheap stand will just not be able to take the weight. If its going to come down, it will come down all at once, not settle
