Do these sponges use silica?

They grew well in my system when I had no Si dosing.

I think the answer is no, they don't do the typical mineral sponge spicule (made with Ca/Si ) thing. They use spongin and the whole thing feels like thin cut of rubbery chicken, you could roll it up like a burrito, and it would spring right back.
(I loved the sponge, and I don't know any hobbyists who would call it a nuisance, contra the article)
