Received an urchin today in the mail and he's not looking good. He dropped probably 1/3 to 1/2 of his spines during shipping. I suspect he won't make it, but wanted to see if there's a chance. I’m not entirely sure he’s even still alive at this point.

Yes it can make it , but if to place a bett on it I’d say it’s toast .
I had one do that from parameter problems. It was ok for awhile started to recover , But the problems persisted and it was toast

I put him in the tank and the clean up crew came out to say hi. He's in a breeder box now, but I haven't seen any movement from him and normally they'd have all kinds of tentacles out trying to grab stuff :-(

Is his **blank**hole moving about up top? My long spine dropped 1/4 of his spines during a tank crash, but ended up recovering them all

Let him stir for awhile, if he stinks toss him
Still don't see any movement but he doesn't stink yet either. I'll just leave him be for the day and see what happens. Everyone else survived shipping. The fish is super stressed though. Hopefully he'll be OK with time. I just added a pvc elbow for him to hide in as he didn't like my AT AT Walker cave.

In my experience if they drop all they are dead, and until then they are hanging on, but death might not be far away.

Yeah, that's about where I'm at in the thinking too. Bummer.

Well he did not pass the sniff test this evening so I took him out. RIP little guy.

Not in my experience. Also, Urchins are very susceptible to salinity swings.
