Do you clean your overflow section?

My system has been up for about 5 years. Never cleaned them once or even thought much about it. But recently just giving them a look, through the massive layer of tube worms. Probly a solid 3 inches of gook if not more. So do you clean it? If so how?

My tanks pretty new at 1yr but I keep a few snails in mine. I get algae build up in it. A little OCD sometimes . Cuc team works or if you have layers then a bottle brush ? That's what I use for my sump

I remove the standpipe and run water through it to remove accumulated detritus.

I can't remove the pipes wish I could. Don't remember what i did when i put them in it was too long ago but they don't come out.

Here is what it looks like lol. The other side is just as gross. I could old school siphon everything out i guess.

Did you glue them in? I think siphoning is the only way to go then.

Honestly I don't remember but i may have. I know i tried to get them out to catch a fish and it was impossible.

Just want to see if others actually clean them really... I know many tanks have overflows you don't actually see from the sides which sparked my interest in the topic.
