Do you dip clams?

Just curious if you guys dip clams when you get them. If so what do you use? What about revive?

Never had a clam, but I've had a clam predator in my system before (eats snails and clams). It was a polyclad flatworm and you definitely don't want one of those in your system if you already have healthy clams.

I've never dipped them, but I always inspect them thoroughly prior to putting them in my system for Pyramidellidae snails or eggs of any sort

Agreed, never dip clams in Revive or anything like it or you'll most likely kill them. I just place them in some water and scrub the shell really good with a toothbrush.

The only time I'd ever recommend dipping a clam would be as a last resort, if the clam was not recovering from Pinched Mantel and, as said, this was the last resort. Then it's a FW dip, after ph and temp are matched.

Id not recommend dipping a clam thorough inspection for them, however Id have to disagree with everyone saying revive would kill the clam. In accidental experience I managed to put a clam in a revive dip for about 10-15 min with the corals I was dipping lol, recovered just fine with no issues. Maybe I got lucky but who knows , just wanted to add that tid bit of info.

Don't dip, but definitely quarantine. Clams tend to harbor unwanted pest often. QT and observe for at least a few days. Just like any other coral specimen, its always a preventive measure to QT and use a microscope to check prior to intro in the display.

Nope FW dips are stressful and unnecessary unless the clam is near death. I agree 100 percent with sanchoy.
