I hate it, but find I have to do it all the time

I glue/putty everything down in my tank, so to frag something it usually means tearing the scape apart and then trying to get it back together
But because of growth, competition, overcrowding, etc i always find myself cutting something up

Sure the money is nice to help with expenses and new purchases but I like my corals big and after waiting a year or so to grow out a nice colony of something, I just hate to have to cut it.

Sps aren't bad cause you can just reach in and snip a branch here or there and they quickly regrow, but for me to cut zoas that have spread all over the rock it is a huge pain

But Because I hate corals over growing and killing each other even more - I am forced to frag

Thats why you place a frag plug next to the colony so it grows oon it and them you just pull it off lol. never knew that?!

I hate getting started but once I do.....im on a roll and I love it. I like how frags look after you make them. They are always brighter and more vibrant than the grown out mother. Pink and golds never looked so cool until you cut um up and make um mad. Than all the sudden they look full of color.lol

I dont frag my zoas once they get placed-its to much trouble unless theres a polyp or 2 flapping in the flow already. Thats why I make a frag before I place and keep it on the SB for grow out.

i do enjoy fragging a bit now and then but had to say i like letting the corals grow all over with out disturbing them .

I enjoy fragging but not over fragging. When I get a coral I frag it before it goes into my main tank so my display can be beautiful and also able to trade and sell at the same time. I put everything on my DIY growout plugs and let them grow then frag frag frag. lol But the wifey don't like me fragging out of the display so this has helped alot. lol

Yea I do that too - I actually have rocks with drilled holes so I can just pull out the plugs when there full. But that doesn't keep up with the growth of some corals, especially some zoas. And worse yet are the stingers - some of the prettiest corals are also the nastiest stingers who love to reach out and touch someone they shouldn't. I had a chalice type that grew to the size of a small dinner plate and looked really cool but I had to take it out cause it was surrounded by a 3" circle of death and I got tired of making room for it. A couple years back i had a rainbow A. Echinata that did the same thing - had to go
After 20 years of fragging corals - it does become more of a chore then a pleasure for some of us, but as shown by the poll I am definitely in the minority

Nope, I don't like putting my hands in the water, deal with water dropped everywhere, things getting messy, having to clean up, etc. :) I am lazy. I frag everything I buy when it is large enough to frag and I can't tell it was fragged. At that point it is done solely to recoup my original expenditure and then I am done. I let it grow out or will frag if someone comes by and really wants something.

I've never fraged anything before, but i have a colony of blastos i want to frag out im just nervous to do so. I would hate to frag it out just to have it die.

When you get decent at fragging, it becomes another part of the hobby in itself. Almost like art. :)

That's what i hear. I just need to work up the nerves to get in there and do it. Maybe I'll start a new thread to get some tips before i start.

LOVE to frag. I like everything about it. Getting to turn one piece of coral into two or three or a hundred :D and getting to trade a coral and still keep the same coral. It's like having your cake and eating it too. (Don't try to eat your frags) Most of my tanks are frag tanks and I love seeing all the little frags in row. like a coral garden.

I do it for a living on a large scale so it does get monotonous at times but I still would rather being doing that than anything else

i enjoy fragging but i do not have a frag tank and alot of times i have to get armpit deep in my tank which i hate but i have to do anyways when comes time for tank maintenance so usualy do them at the same time.

Truth be told. I get scared I am going to kill the coral everytime I frag it...well I guess that's mostly true of zoas and LPS. I am fine with fragging soft corals like toadstools or sinularia or fragging SPS (particularly the branching kind. I just am terrified of fragging the others...I do it...but I don't like it.

love fragging just don't have room for them so I usually just throw out stuff tht grows really fast and haavent found a glue tht works the way it should most are to runny

It scared the life out of me just popping one off the plug for the first time XD but I imagine I'll get more comfortable with that sort of thing.
