There's more thrill in the build because of all the changes occuring. But the joy of seeing a reef coming to maturity is also something. So, build short term, life on the long.

It's two different types of satisfaction: the build is more exciting but the life in the tank is more contemplative. Both are great - I wouldn't want to just build systems and walk away, nor would I want to never change what I have running.

I love both. Would have voted for both if I could. I love the equipment and am always tinkering\upgrading,but can sit and watch the fish for hours. Have a web cam that I use to watch fish while at work!

The build is judged by how well it meets its end goal of completing the ecosystem keeping it stable, thriving, and growing. One can not be separated from the whole.

Planning every step in my mind, then to paper, deciding on equipment, the complete build and lastly watching my critters in their new home.

I'm new to the hobby (4mo) but I think I'm with you on the build part. I did everything DIY and I take really enjoy being able to engineer a system to create an environment that's good enough to keep fairly picky wildlife happy. I'm still tinkering and re-engineering and inventing things as I figure out what my setup actually needs.

I like the stuff inside the tank. As for what’s outside, I want it to work and be as maintenance free as possible. I don’t care how pretty it looks as long as it functions!

Its 2 Walls in an L shape in each corner with a single island in the middle connected to the left hand side by the tonga branch the pictures dont show but there are cave built within caves on both sides each cave has about 3 diffrent exits @jdpeters
It’s beautiful I like the old piles and walls

It's like I go through withdrawals after the build excitement is complete, and I transition to the long term patience growth period, but at least I'm not spending handfuls of money in this stage.

I’m one of those lucky people who get paid to do builds. I do enjoy the process, but all of the stuff is just a means to an end.

If I could make healthy, thriving reefs by just filling a tank up and plugging in an air pump, I would be fine with that.

I enjoy the build and gear and what I can do or get to make things easier and better. But I also like the ecosystem that comes out of all the hard work.
