Im always looking for more. Cruise control is boredom for me. Don't get me wrong, I love just hanging out watching my tank, but it's so. much more than that to me.

Agree but even though my tank is in a good state I still find myself wondering daily what I can do to improve it even more.

I was given an 8yr old, established, biocube 14, filled with animals (i now know) need a larger tank. i’m so new it’s just been getting in the flow of regular maintenance (i think I got that now), and discovering and fixing issues with the tank (feeding enough, salinity was 1.0299!!!!!, etc). Honestly I wonder if i am lucky that nothing else can fit in the tank …but they will have a new one in 6mos, so we’ll see what happens then! Lol

I get very nervous when all my tanks are looking perfect. That means an algae outbreak, stn, cyano, or something else is about to happen. I learned to never let my guard down, and don't take success for granted.

I got to that point last year, everything was doing good, came back from vacation and both my cyphastrea frags were toast and one brain was very sad. Still don't know what happened.

Moved forward this spring on mushroom eradication, tossed a big rock covered with them...chronic cyano....but most of the new corals I got this spring are doing very well.

And the cyphastrea grew back from the dead and is bigger than ever.

I go on vacation in a month...

But when is enough really enough? I know my wallet could use a vacation from buying reef stuff.

I'm like this too for the most part but then I see something online or in the forums here and I think we'll it ain't broke but this will make it even better.

You sound a lot like myself. I clean power heads when they get noisy or stop spinning. I cant remember the last time I cleaned a return pump. Dump skimmer cup when it needs it and wipe the throat with a paper towel and done.

Once I felt my first tank was stable and all inhabitants doing well after several years with no major setbacks I let that tank run. I did plenty of fiddling early on. Now I drip kalk, manually dose 25ml 2part daily and let it run. I do normal maintenance of course but other than that its watch things grow. To prevent boredom I set up another tank. Once that one was running pretty smooth I set up another. (see a pattern here ) The last one was just set up in February of this year and is a bit of an experiment for me using dry rock, bare bottom and bottled bac for the first time. I'm also trying sticks for the first time as well a type of carbon dosing with bacto balance.

Nah it's never done. When you fill one up its time for a bigger tank or additional tank(s) lol. Truly a self-perpetuating money pit of a hobby. But it never ceases to satisfy my obsessive proclivities

I always think about doing a reef jar, just to see if I can do it....bath room would be the best spot. Then there is the thread going on about temperate rock pools and I have an empty small cube aio in the basement and I'm only 5 hours from the beach.

And to add to this. Few years ago I had the opportunity to get an Octopus for free, O. Bimac. I really thought hard how I could make it work with a 55 gallon....I passed.

Haha exactly…when i went to the store to get my bumblebee snails, i could see how easily i could have come home with more- if i had the space! Hahah luckily there was no space- so i just got what i came for hehehe

I don't think it's possible to look at your reef and say "perfect, done" even if you were to stop adding fish, coral, inverts. At some point things will happen on their own that require action.

I recently said "Perfect, done" and wanted to just let the tank grow in... Then a QT'd Cirrhilabrus rubeus became available and now it's not done anymore.
