Do you ever smell your skimmer and does it stink?

Disagree. That is the epitome of worse I’ve ever smelled. Puked in my mouth trying to clean that mess up every time it happened.

I'll take skim vs. rotting snail any day of the week...

The only thing worse than the smell of skim mate is possibly that of a dead snail that's been fermenting for a day or two...

I remember as a kid collecting a few snail shells i was CERTAIN were dead and empty on a trip to the Caribbean as a kid, put them in my suitcase, and didn’t open it until 2-3 after i got home

Mine never smell under the tank but once it comes out for cleaning….everyone in the house knows…

I don't run a skimmer in my current system. I have run them in the past. Skimmers that have a covered collection cup don't stink up the house. If you get within 6 inches of the cup though it'll singe your nostrils. It's the skimmers that don't have covered collection cups that will stink up a house. Many times a large vessel like 5 gallon buckets are used to collect the skimmate. The more skimmate a container can hold the greater the stench. This is especially so when you go to empty it.

I probably don't need it but I have a drain off of my collection cup that goes into a 2 liter coke bottle and my vent holes get clogged with foam and all the air is directed to the bottle so yes it makes for a pleasant smell.

I selected other. I just drained my skimmer for the first time the other day. And yes it smelled awful. not something I look forward to. Lol

I did get a small lingering smell between cup empties, then a big stench when emptying - like many have said. My StinkStink takes care of the small weekly smell between cup empties now though : )
