Do you feed hermit crabs?

Hi, I am new to keeping saltwater fish. I have a clownfish and a fire fish in a 30 gal, along with a bunch of hermit crabs. I was wondering if I need to feed the hermit crabs separately, or if they will just eat the leftovers from my fish? Also, if I need to feed them separately, how do I do it without my fish stealing their food?

they will eat the leftovers, if you feed enough for there to be leftovers. I like to keep them well fed, If they get too hungry, they can eat snails, or corals, or each other.

I feed them Hikari pellets once or twice a week.

Mine just scavenge off leftovers and will eat algae. Never had any problems with them and snails (except ones that had already died).

I have conjecture that most cleanup crew members die of starvation. Yes feed the poor things. They will still clean up. They are like dogs, eat and eat and eat. By the way, a healthy hermit grab will grow and need a bigger shell to move into. Have a variety for it to pick and choose from.

I would feed a large pellet or two that sinks....eventually IMO once tank more mature they will get what they need from scavenge.

I feed heavy, so they can eat the leftovers. I scoop up the dead shells when I turn over sand and usually buy 25 more blue/red leg hermits every 6 months or so.
