Do You Glue Your Drain Into Your Sump's Bulkhead?

sump comes with 2-ready pipe inside the drain area. not sure if i should cut it or no. please see attached picture.
i add 2 union so i can remove check valve easy if gives me hard time.

Great on the unions! I cut my drain pipes down to where they’re a couple of inches below the water line. It makes it easier to purge the air from your full siphon line. Not as much back pressure as having a long pipe stuck down in the water. If those fittings aren’t glued on the bottom side of the bulkhead you can experiment with different lengths. But the 1 or 2 inches below water line is a common recommendation. Mine came glued in, but it didn’t bother me cutting them off.

both of them or main drain only? also how i can find-out whats the best length of thee pipe before cut it?

actually, i know how to measure it. my skimmer water level should be 8 inches. i can fill the sump with water till i get to 8 inches, then see where water is standing in the first chamber, then measure and cut it.
correct me if im wrong.

The bubble trap water level will always be the same. I’m assuming it’s sealed at the bottom? Hence, “Bubble trap”. Most are anyways. Then water has to travel up and over to your filter socks. The water level in your sump will be much lower than the top of the bubble trap.

Right, so both primary and secondary lines would be about one to two inches below the water level in that chamber. The drains should terminate just below the waterline, but some people run their open channel slightly lower than the full siphon or vice/versa I personally have never had any issues running both at the same level into the sump but there are many variables that differentiate one tank from another so I'd recommend playing with the length into the waterline, but not much.

My current system is herbie style. New build will be bean animal. Here’s a pic to give you an idea of how far mine is below the water in my bubble trap area. And here’s another pick of my actual sump water level.

You may get a lot of salt creep if you don’t solvent weld it. Maybe that’s a problem, maybe it’s not. I probably would weld it.
