Do you guys regret owning a BTA?

So when I did this the other day, 3/4 of them just fell off. The ones that didn’t I was able to nudge off with my finger or a credit card edge carefully.

I want to thank you for your advice!!!!! It worked like a charm. I took every single RBTA out of my display attached to a rock.
Let’s them fall off into a bucket worked. Took 30-60 minutes and they all came off rocks. A few I had to nudge off, but nothing terrible.

Unfortunately it was a sad day for my reef. It was a mature SPS and LPS tank of 2 plus years.

Some good news though, I had 32 RBTA’s....
I took them to my LFS in Cherry hill and traded them in. He gave me a handsome credit so I loaded up on some nice corals. Nice colony of Duncan’s, Few Blastos, Open Brain Trachy, Acan colonies and few others.

Nothing is really open yet on new stuff, so we’ll see.

It was really hard having to reset an entire nature tank but it had to be done. Just another lesson learned in reefing...

I love all my nems and with the decision to have them in my tank comes the risks.

I currently have 2 softball sized RBTA’s, 1 H. Magnifica, 1 LTA, and 3 rock flowers.

In my last 30 gallon, I had a RBTA, and 2 mini maxi’s.

In the past 4 years, only 1 mini maxi ever moved. So I’m not in tune with nem issues.

With that 1 exception, they all stayed where I wanted them to be.

I planned for the appropriate conditions and rock work / substrate in advance and it has worked for me.

Part of me feels the whole “nem thru the powerhead” is exaggerated.

I know it has happened and I feel bad for those it happened to, but my gut says it happens like 1 out of every 1000 nems.

I had a maxi mini climb into a hob filter intake tube (through the screen/guard) but I just cut it open and the nem was fine.

I voted regret.

My son bought one 8 years ago for his 29 gallon biocube. One was a lonely number I guess and about a year or so he woke up one morning and noticed two. They get pretty large and soon two was too much for the cube. I picked up a 29 gallon biocube and so we moved one. I guess the original didn't like being lonely and after a few months we noticed another one. Again. Ok, great we said and left it alone. That didn't last long because those two, not sure which, split again and now we are three in the one cube with mine holding steady at one. We got tired of maintaining two tanks so merged them into a 40 breeder. This lasted for a bit but over time three because four, four five, etc. You see a pattern to the point we gave some away and started to plan an upgrade.

Upgrade is complete and merged the 40 into a 210 gallon tank. Overall for the last year out of the 12 we moved we have 8 that are doing well. The remaining 4 do not like the new tank, the lights, the flow, or pukani rock. Something, not sure what, is causing them to decline. My guess is on the pukani rock and leaching of phosphates. But overall they are nice but can become a pest much like Xenia by splitting. I've seen a couple tanks over run with them and started to see that in my smaller tank. We'll see over time with the 210. Maybe not a bad problem to have I guess...

I love my anemone! It was one of my first additions went in with the clean up crew right after the cycle. He’s spit 5 times since 2013. Moved into a larger aquarium about 3 years ago. Went through a tunze 6105 powerhead and still doing well. Mine doesn’t wander stays put and when it split a piece always stays where it was. I always grab the other half right away when it’s on the move.

I voted happy. Only have had mine 2 years but after the first couple weeks of walking half of the tank, "he" settled and has never moved again or split (knock on wood). Hes about 10 inches in diameter when fully fluffed out and him hosting my clowns makes me happy every day. debating getting a 2nd one actually!

Absolutely. If I had it to do again, I wouldn't. They grow too big, reproduce and kill my corals. I now have a dedicated anemone cube but I still have 3 in my display tank that I can't get out.

The same for me. I started a 20g anemone tank and was able to move one of the 5 that were in the main tank into it. I'd like to move one more into the 20g and get rid of the rest once I get around to figuring out how to remove them from the rock.

Since my tank is basically dedicated to nems and softies (mostly leathers), I cannot say I regret them. I do get mad at the carpets as they seem to like to walk a lot, but my BTAs pretty much stay in place once happy and are great. Big, but beautiful. I have a pair of snowflakes that host the btas and a group of 4 saddlebacks that host all three carpets (haddonis). I also have rock nems, maxi minis too.

Love the movement of my tank. I will get pictures one day.

I enjoy watching BTAs & clowns as much as anyone, but I voted regret. Mine kept splitting and walking leaving a trail of coral destruction. Had to take my reef apart just to remove them all (6 in a 65G!)
No more BTA for me, thanks.

I love my rainbow bubble tip anemones, bought 3 from the same lfs all from the same split. Started with one but went back for another followed by a third, female blood orange clown wouldn't share nems. I have no interest in corals, would much rather a tank full of anemones. I just put a sponge around the wave pumps and over the filter inlets, slows flow down a tad so will upgrade the wave pumps someday.

we love reviving old threads vs starting new ones. im for real. I love continuing conversations instead of having 100 of the same thread every few weeks.

Personally, I really like my RBTA. My only caveats are that my clowns are kinda dumb and decided to live in the little discosoma mushrooms that are literally right next to it & that it decided to jump off its original rock and attach its foot on the bottom of a really nice, large arch rock. Now there’s no telling which side of the rock it’s going to pop out on every day so I can’t put any corals over there. I do have a very large leather next to it & they actually do okay next to each other, for now. The leather is shedding right now so don’t let the picture fool you.
I did add an anemone crab to it since the clowns can’t get their act together. Lol

Absolutely, my RBTA splits like crazy. They are extremely difficult to get out of a large tank. I've started killing them because I've lost expensive corals due to them.
