It's a love and hate relationship - this reef keeping hobby. Sometimes when everything goes right (perfect water chemistry, happy corals), it's a very fulfilling odyssey; and other times it can be outright disheartening (eg outbreaks you can't control, coral fighting that leads to expensive losses, etc).

I love it, but resent it when a tank emergency steals family time.. U know an hour or two of effort will prevent a full weekend tear down and tears, but u are usually the only one that appreciates that fact.

Most of my regrets are not monitoring levels of different things for my corals in the beginning. Now I monitor each day or every other day depending on the test right now and it makes me happy to be able to take care of my corals the right way.

I regret not researching at all before jumping on this expensive voyage. I went to my LFS saw a tank and showed up at home with it. Wife was "ok" at that point but having to upgrade lights twice in a couple of months and pumps twice definetly killed that "ok" really quick. I could have saved money or just gone bigger which im trying to do now.

I regret not paying more attention to water quality in the beginning. On the other hand, fish keeping has taught me so much about life that it has been an invaluable experience.

Biggest regret is not attending enough swaps and shows such as MACNA and RAP.
Other is seeing prices rising every year rather than coming down

It’s such a setback when something bad happens in your tank, whether your fault or not. I recently got a big plate piece of a brain coral. It’s MF stung corals at night and melted some of my favorites.

Jealousy when looking at all u guys with basement sumps/fishrooms and such coz i live in an apartment :(
I live in a tiny apartment as well. Middle of the city. I have no room for a bigger tank that a 40g. I feel your pain.
