Do you keep it too high or too low whats your reason.

Anybody COLD this morning,Got snow last night, Brrr my temp whent down a bit 73.9 in the tank ; i had turned off my heat for the last 2 days. Still 70oF in the rooms. Anyway at what temp do you maintain your tank and any particular reason for it. I keep mine at 75oF because of my seahorses and some inverts that are cool fellows, so i can keep them alive.


If you look at Live Aquaria its says ; 72-78° F, dKH 8-12, pH 8.1-8.4, sg in every post no matter what.

I look for stability, where temperature is concerned. That's one reason I keep my tanks in the basement. The ambient air is constantly 68 degrees, with little fluctuation. The tank stays around 78 at night, 80 during the day. I just set my heaters to 78 and let nature decide the rest.

In the winter I keep mine at 76 degrees. I know from servicing tanks if there is one piece of equipment that is likely to fail its the heater and that can be catastrophic when they stick on. For that reason I try not to work mine too hard, ( although I have a chiller which would offset a failed heater). In the summer I let the tank go up to 81 degrees for the same reason. I don't want to overwork my chiller which is pretty old. I live in PA and we do not have AC.

I worked for the Seahorse in Allison Park from 1997 to 2011. It was a great place to work.

I'm usually around 75/76 during the day and 74/75 over night...and during the summer I will bump it up a degree...as my basement stays fairly cool...

I've always kept my tanks cooler..and consistently I feel I have less issues because of this...

Never been to the Seahorse. I used to make trips to Wet Pets and Friends in McMurray almost once a month, years ago. I'm only about 2.5 hours from pittsburgh.

Wet Pets is a very nice store too. I bought a snowflake eel and a nice crocea clam from them when I couldn't wait for the Seahorse to get them in.

Mine stays between 77.5 and 78.5 all year. The swing looks big in the graph below, but it's really less than 1 degree over hours of time.
