If you buy a no name coral and decide to name, no one will buy it. It doesn't matter how cool it is or how rare the color combo is; no one will buy a coral with a new name if it is not from a well known name like WWC or SC. I praise those big LFS that can do such things. There is no point of the little guys out there in the world to sell new corals. You could be a well known member and still not sell a new name. Only the biggest companies can say a name and it can stick and raise the value. The common person can say its a no name and sell it cheap, even though it can be a morph of a well known zoa, because they are not well known.
Thats what grinds my gears.

Others can chime in if they want.

do you have some amazing "no-name" pieces, you are referring to specifically? or is this just in general?

I see your point and tend to agree to a certain extent, however..if you have a truly rare/unique piece to which you gave a name, people want it, and none of the "big guys" have something similar/same, then the name will stick.

Yes and no on me owning these kind of corals. They are unique in the way nothing close has been seen on the market. But its a no when I'm also considering this to markets in total and see potential in these no name corals.

I don't understand some of these crazy names? Some of them (to me) don't even make sense...its like they were randomly selected from a raffle bucket,....

These shine like an utter chaos under blues and night lights.
I have a bomb echinata on my phone, so i need to download that. Ill post that after.

I envy those big coral giants. A name holds more value than the corals actual appearance most of the time.

To me, I can care less about having "name brand corals", zoas in particular...... As a hobbyist, i know I can get the same affect of producing a beautiful home tank with a bunch of nameless $10 pieces (just my humble opinion)

I dunno the WD Tenuis became more popular than the jawdropper in less than a month

What I find funny is that you can have the exact same thing as the named coral and just because the vendor that named it never touched it then it's not the named coral.

It is called marketing, and it has been going on through out history. For example diamonds, gold, land, etc. now the next step is supply and demand. As PT Barnum is quoted " there is a sucker born everyday".

Quit being a victim.

Especially now that this hobby is bigger than it has ever been in history.

Seriously though. Why can't the little guy name a coral and the name sticks. At the rate I'm going I mine aswell hide my unique stuff. Build my collection and name these whatever I want if I open up an online store. There are so many unique corals out there. I just want some of mine to be as popular as say the WWC bounce mushroom.

On the flip side, look at the corals that have been named by big vendors that hasnt taken off. The public is very fickle. You would never guess what will take off next.

That may be true. But the ones that have taken off sell way more than most will ever sell for. But think about this. Say an ugly color combo is given a fancy name by a fancy company. Think about the ones who fall for it through propaganda of advertisements.
