Periodically all my pieces in my tank with suction cups will lose their suction. Suction from my heater, my koralias, my food clips. I can't explain it. I'll clean the suction cups and the glass and they still won't go back on for a little while. I know the suction tends to lose suction every now and then but mine is like happening on a monthly cycle. Its weird and I'm hoping there is nothing in my tank that is causing it, i.e water specs. Any ideas??

I never use suction cups. My JBJ auto top off came with them to hold the sensors and I made a holder for it out of acrylic. I did the same with my PH probe also. magnets or acrylic is the only way to go.

I clean the suction cup well then put a
dab of aquarium sealer (silicone) on them.

Stick them down and they usally stay stuck for a
long time and you can still take them off if desired.

When I ran Maxi-Jets I liked the suction cups over magnets
as they were quieter (less vibrations transfered to the glass).

suction cups will always fail.
there are many different ways to use magnets now and many different commercial products to use.
I happen to like to make my own magnet holders.

thanks all for the responses." mfnn" i am interested if you would care to explain how you do this?

OH you must be really noob to this game LOL. You will soon hate everything that uses suction cups. Most things that used suction cups in the hobby are starting to use magnets to keep things from falling.

My first dyi project was to make acrylic magnet holders for my seio 1500's that had suction cups. I've made algae clips just gluing magnets to the clips where the suction cup was.
My heaters are usually laying down in a sump, but with a little thought, something could be made.
I remember seeing a magnet with a round type clip on the DF&S website that might work for heaters.
I thought korilas came with magnet mounts?

I like to use the neodymium magnets for strenght.
I also like to use molds and a two part epoxy.

noob! :choler: Nah been 3+ years in saltwater (not as long as most but def not noob material). I just haven't upgraded anything to magnets yet. My koralias have magnets and they seem to follow suit with the suction cups but they are more when I clean them they wont stay. its weird

No matter what maintenance you do, suction cups will eventually fail. Yes, they are replaceable, but it's a never-ending cycle. Magnet holders are the best solution, IMO.

HaHa just messing with ya. Yeah I hate suction cups. I'll never buy anything that still uses them.
