Do you need to rinse live sand?

This is what I pulled out of my substrate during the first water change of my 75 gallon tank.

Isome say yes, some say no. I did last month and glad I did. I pulled my 10 year old gravel and put in sand after I rinsed. Saved a ton of particulate floating around the tank.
