Always at zero, do 100g changes on a 300 g system 30 years old. Use gfo and carbon and filter sock. Coral grows like weeds every 6 months a hair of cyano but that is from the chemical imbalance due to carbon. When I don't use it I do get cyano. Never had dinos in this set up. Using vibrant. Something in my water that grows algae, after water changes gha would happen. No chemist knows why. Nothing detectable. Anyway. Nice clean algae free tank with great growth.

Thank you I have a deep sand bed 6 inches of sugar fine: my nitrates have always been zero. I have cyno how would you raise it: cycling skimmer adding more food I am at a loss. Old time reefer when zero nitrates was the goal
I would start feeding more and skimming less. But make sure to monitor NO3 and phosphate to make sure they don’t jump up too high

Ok, so far, dialing down skimmer, removing filter socks and heavy feading seems to produce some results, no3 is not longer undetectable, i'd say 0.1 or similar, some discoloration shows, so i'll take it as a good sign....

Po4 still undetectable.....

My nitrates are between 0 and 1ppm on Nyos and salifert. I'd love to have them a bit higher to give me a buffer for nuisance algae/bacteria.

Currently have no mechanical filtration, I have a chaeto refugium and biomedia in the sump. I removed my skimmer and floss.

150L, 9 fish, 2-3 cubes of mysis a day with selcon, phytoplankton, RedSea reef energy, no water change for 3 weeks, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Thanks will drop skimming from 24hr to 22 for a start do not want to go overboard at first
Also, you can opt to switch filter socks/floss less often too. This will let food decompose a little more. You would just have to empty your skimmer cup more

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
