Do you participate in your local clubs dbtc coral program? If so what is your opinion? How has it worked out for the club? Are people a bigger pain than it's worth? Any advice in starting one? Thanks to all those that share their experiences.

What is a DBTC program? I'm not familiar with it. I'm a board member in a good sized club and I'm interested in hearing about this.

You offer up frags to members who continue to offer frags to other members. The idea is if your colony dies you can request a frag from someone else so you can start fresh without buying it.

I'm unfamiliar too and would be interested to her more.

And DBTC is still not defined...

Exchanging corals for exactly that reason is a main reason for having a club. You mean some clubs don’t do that? How bizarre.

DBTC = dont break the chain

Ahhh. What do the letters stand for?

We really practice that already. We just don't have a formal system.

I have a great example of how it works. A friend of mine who is on here has a beautiful purple/blue acro that he gave a large frag of to me. Some time later he had a small issue and lost the very large mother colony. I was able to give him a large frag (read mini colony) from mine and it's thriving in his tank now. Good thing to as an outbreak of dinos is threatening to take my colony out.

Our club just sort of does this, but we don't have a program for it.

Ya its just a way to formalize an exchange really in an old club I did it in before I moved. Just shows people later in the chain you were part of the chain that got them that frag years ago.

Never done it at a club level, but I have swapped frags with a fellow reefer for this very reason. Never needed to collect but it was really cool to keep in touch and see the different colors/ growth patterns from my system to his.
