Now I know how most on here feel about fish and the need for quarantine, but what’s your views on coral? Do you skip quarantine as they present a lower risk of bringing parasites or do you quarantine them for the same period as fish

I didnt used to but i am starting to actually. Not for a whole 76 days but just a couple weeks to observe and treat.

This is actually starting to blow my mind, I don’t quarantine, but I’ve always thought that people that do it would also quarantine coral, wouldn’t WS and velvet be able to be transferred on a coral from tank to tank? Especially on fleshy ones like lps and softies?

Depends on where it comes from and what kind of coral it is

Most of the times I believe no one really knows we’re the coral been, mail order, LFS, friend of a friend etc... I was just reading on a thread we’re some members would rather throw some really expensive equipment that been exposed to a parasite than actually use it again in the tank.

I do. I does take more maintenance time and money to basically set up another system. My coral QT has about 35 total gallons. I’ve dealt with verminted snails and aptasia in the past. Just my opinion but its just as important as a fish QT.

There is no evidence of cysts attaching to living flesh. The risk comes from cysts attaching to the rock/frag plug so risk is the same for all coral types. I QT corals for 76 days they also get 3 dips to stop anything unwanted reaching the display.

When I ran a coral business here, I bought coral on the forum in bulk from some of the bigger sellers and from various vendors and wholesalers. The wholesalers has less pests than the vendors and forum sellers. If you aren’t QTing coral, you should.

I still had some coming on a coral once, am aware that the study’s say otherwise but I kinda tough everyone that does the full quarantine procedure would also do coral. It’s kinda mind blowing on how we learn something new every day in this hobby. Not saying it’s wrong though, I just didn’t knew that.

I remove from plug. Dip in CoralRx. Mount on new plug and into the tank.
