Been doing a lot of reading and was curious as to what everyone runs on their system.

1. Do you run carbon? If so, how often? 24/7/365 or occasionally?

2. Do you run GFO? If so, how often? 24/7/365 or occasionally?

3. Do you run them together in a reactor or separate?

Just curious as to the results some of you have had with different combinations of these.

Right now I run a small amount (1/2 of the BRS calculated dose) if carbon through a reactor. Running it 24/7. Considering adding GFO to the carbon and running them together.

When you say running GFO with the carbon, do you mean in the same reactor?

I run only carbon in a media bag. I take it out once n' awhile when I think I might be stripping too much stuff out. I let my corals tell me when It needs to be changed or removed.

I don't run either one. I throw in SeaKlear for phsophate removing. No carbon.

I run carbon in a bag in my filter sock and GFO in a TLF reactor (soon to be upgraded to a Synergy reactor).

I run GFO and carbon in a BRS reactor. I also use half of the amount recommended, and I change it every three weeks. Been doing it this way for at least a year. I has helped greatly in controlling hair algae.

I run both is separate reactors since they have both different flow requirements and different useful lives. I feed both reactors with one MJ 900 powerhead with individual ball valves so I can take one or the other out of service and adjust flows individually.
