Do you save your dead skimmers? Perhaps just replace the pump with something better?

I was using a Simplicity 240DC which worked great... for about a year. I recently replaced it with a skimz 143-QP Monzter for my frag tank. I started to wonder... could I have just replaced the Simplicity pump with a more reliable pump brand? Since I already have the Skimz, I was just going to trash the Simplicity but now I'm wondering if I should hold onto it since the skimmer itself is intact.

Thoughts?

Yes. I save the bodies if they worked well - not all bodies are created equal. Use to use Sicce PSK pumps as replacements, but now I am on to Tunze Hydrofoamer. There are many that should work great. You have to match the GPH as much as possible and they seem to always need some slight plumbing pieces or modifications.

Yeah I was think using DC pumps would be best since I could have a little more leeway when dialing it in.
