From my observation, Reefers seem seclusive in nature. I often see freshwater groups sharing their hobby more openly than their saltwater counterpart. This can clearly be seen in the number of lurkers on sites like this as well! :grinning-squinting-face: Where are you at on that spectrum?

I think it depends on the person themselves. Some people are very private while others love to share what's going on in their tanks. I'd say that many compare their tank to the incredible ones posted on R2R and figure why bother as it's not even close in comparison. It shouldn't be a thing, but it is.

I suppose it's sort of a personal thing. You designed the scape, you chose what critters to be in there and you placed the corals (if any). Most people just don't want to hear snarky comments from trolls so why open yourself up to that possibility even if it's probably not going to happen on R2R.

Personally, I haven't shared pics on this site yet. Mostly because I'm always looking ahead and never totally satisfied with my tank as it sits plus I suck at taking pics. I will eventually I'm sure after my wife takes good pics. :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I like seeing all the tanks. I get a glimpse into someone's reefing journey, and the artfully crafted tank (which they all are to me) shows what the Reefer enjoys. I kinda get to meet someone from their tank. Just like people, they all have their ups and downs, and are as unique as the Reefers themselves.

I love sharing, I also love picking other reefers brains for tips and tricks. Here’s my current project, building up a 50.

I've been in the hobby a long long time. Back to the stone age where the only info to be garnered were the guys at the LFS - There was an era before the internet.

Having been in the hobby for almost 4 decades I have had lots of ups and downs. And being able to guide people to not suffer those downs is important to me - whether protecting the hobbyist or more importantly trying to not put livestock at risk.

I've been posting videos on youtube for over a decade. I have/had build threads on the major forum sites as they have come and gone.

And differently than most I have a 24/7 public webcam on my tank going back almost 20 years now. And that webcam stays online whether my tank is looking amazing or it's just suffered a crash. (or my half naked, hairy backed fat mass is cleaning the tank or mounting corals)

I also think alot of times we get enchanted by an aquarium to later discover that it's not actually a hobbyists aquarium but a business related aquarium - one built to market something for the hobby. So sharing my tank which has a lot of DIY projects on it, and does things way outside the norm, hopefully gives more people the incentive to say "I can do this myself" or "I wanna try doing this my way."
