Do you stop to enjoy the little things?

When I watch my tank, I usually observe the overall tank, and then start looking at the little things. I love to notice the polyp extension on the corals and watch as a tentacle grabs passing goodies. I also love watching hermits change shells and watching them inspect their future homes. :haha:

What are some little things you like to watch in your tank or do you stop to notice the small features of your reef?

I have this one rock that as about 30 little clams bored into it they are no bigger than a nickel and they alway get my attention. They aren't full of color but watch them close when a fish swims by or a hermit get to close is funny to watch. Plus knowing that I raised them from babies makes my day.

I love watching my clownfish hosting my duncan. He reminds me of a dog rolling around in the grass on a warm sunny day.
I also enjoy the "behind the scenes" area on the backside of my rockwork. There's no light and it is just covered with different kinds of small sponges that have taken up real estate over the years in the dark area where all the leftovers collect.

Hermits changing shells
pods scurrying at night
worms reacting to flashlights pulling in their feeding tentacles
starfish feet moving along the glass
snails meticulously cleaning algae off the glass
Nass snails emerging from the sand at feeding time or lights out

These are all small things that I like to watch that go unnoticed by many people who look at the tank.

Love to watch the small things - the beauty of a tiny feather duster worm popping out of its tube, the growth patterns on a small clump of red macroalgae, the way a snails foot looks on the glass, watching my green wrasse come bursting up out of the sandbed a feeding time, the radula of a snail as it scraps away at the encrusting algae on the glass, the spiral shape of the snail eggs on the glass, tentacles emerging out of LPS corals at feeding time or the long sweeping tenetacles of frogspawn that are typically visible only at night. Those are a few of my favorite things.

I love all the tiny things in my tank and often get out my jeweler's loupe (magnifier) so see what is going on. The diversity of life amazes me and I am always discovering something new. My tank is more of a science project to me than a fancy part of the home decor and I get the most out of studying what is there and then going on line to research to find out what it was and how to keep it alive and reproducing.

Nothing enjoys me more then to look down at my rimless chalice tank and feed it and watch how the coral eats and interacts with the food. I also enjoy the last hour of dimming on my lights my flasher wrasses interact very well. My girlfreind thinks I'm crazy when she walks in and I'm just relaxing watching them swim around.
