With most of us today, we use live rock from the ocean and the dead dry rock which we add a ammonia starter for biofiltration.

Do you also use a secondary, additional biological product in your sump, like ceramic's etc ?

I have rock rubble in my sump, besides the additional surface area adds areas for pods, sponges tube worms away from predation.

I run more rock in my 100 gal Rubbermaid sump along with a two Marine Pure blocks. I know others will jump in around MP Blocks and Media. I have had it going for a few years and they have worked well.

Rock rubble and all my spare pieces of live rock are in the sump. Figure the rock serves a purpose there rather than sitting in a tub of saltwater. I also recently set up a reefer 170 and want to keep it somewhat minimalistic so I added marine pure ceramic biomedia cubes to the sump. I don't know how well they will work but looking at them in theory they should. I dumped the spares in the sump for my two larger DT. I figure you can't have too much bio filter but maybe I'm wrong?

I'll be in about the same as you soon. I'm setting up another tank, a 125g in wall. I have a lot of rock, but I'm going to try the less is more rock scape. I may also try the marine pure block, that's the reason for my poll here.

So far, I like the simplicity of a product like the Marine Pure block, by just placing it in the sump.
