After all these years I got up this morning thought too myself that I would test my new salt water I keep my tank a 450 cal 9 dkh 1400 mag 1.026 the new water is 475 cal 11.5 dkh all good it the tank just wondering if anyone test

Yes and No
At first you will test a lot .
Over time you know what your doing (maybe) and prob will get it right without testing.

I bought 20 boxes of instant ocean, all the same lot number. I test once when I open a new box to see where it's at. I stopped testing after 5 boxes because it was all mixing up the same.

I'll text again when I run through these boxes and get a different batch

I test and adjust salinity and Alk. I use TM pro and still find variations in Alk

Yep. Test every new batch. The tank is still new and I am re-learning!!!

i dont test new salt. I just buy quality reef salt and trust it will do what its supposed to do

Nope. I do regular water changes (try to do them weekly) and I am not a stickhead so I am not as concerned with my levels as many. I also don't test my DT nearly as often as most. After 20ish years in the hobby, I trust my tank to tell me that something is off and then I can test to see what is causing the issue. This method works for me, but it is certainly not for everyone!

I don’t change enough water, about 10% or 35 gallons out of about 350 gallons once every month or so, for the new salt water to change my chemistry much. Only thing I test is salinity. So I have never tested my water change water and probably never will. And I still use instant ocean.

I use redsea pro but I using the redsea program it's a lot more money but like it

Only check salinity on new water changes.
I do however check parameters weekly with these changes & adjust new water if needed.
