Well I made a error on my sump design and I need an extra baffle. I currently have the filter camber exit from the bottom into the skimmer chamber then up and over a baffle and out. Problem is the flow is leaving a skim on the skimmer chamber as most of the flow is staying low and exiting without "cleaning" the surface. Do you think I can drain these compartments and silicone another glass plate in leave for 30mins then refill. It wont be cured but it will be taking no load. If yes I can, do I used natural or acetic based silicon? I found this YT clip and it is possible but I am more worried about the fish and corals. Am I better off using silicone tubing as a gasket and wedging the plate in so the water exits over the top then down?? The seal doesnt have to be perfect just to direct most of the flow

silicone is nasty chemicals while they cure. and might harm fish/corals
2 ideas came to my mind doing what you planning
1) take sump offline for 1 day, have only recirculation pumps going inside your display. 1 day will do nothing for your fish or corals. meanwhile go ahead drain your sump and do what ever you need to fix in your sump with silicone.
2) if you want to go longer on fixing your sump. i recommend getting regular bin and use that as your (temporary) sump. transfer all or sum of your equipment into this bin and run the tank like that.
if i was you, id use option 1.

I would not risk uncured silicone in a reef tank personally. I agree with @zheka757 option 1. A day or two of cutting off your sump is no big deal.

other option is a cheap $20 nano powerhead on the bottom of you skimmer chamber pointing to the surface.

thx guys for the responses. I gave it some more thought and this is what I came up with. The water pressure will keep the baffle in place and having the spacers will keep it off the dividing pane. Also I can remove it for ez cleaning and in case i get a bigger skimmer I can get th 1" back. I'll let the silicone dry over night and post a pic of the finished job besok

Be sure to move heater up top to keep tank warm while doing your work on sump

Um....thx for the advice but I run a chiller to get the bath water down to 26c... I have also elected not to glue the baffle in place, I will just let the water pressure hold it there, so the sump wont b shut down
Be sure to move heater up top to keep tank warm while doing your work on sump

cheers
