Holidays are approaching.. I've heard several times that my wife would like to get me a fish or coral for a birthday or Christmas...I personally don't want her to because I'm afraid that she'd get something "wrong" :nerd:

Has this type of offer ever been presented to you? Would you allow someone to attempt to get you a live gift and trust them to get something that won't kill off your entire tank?

Yes, we live 30 min form fosters so if she were to ever get anything wrong then they will always accept returns. but the xmas list usually says - divers den gift cert!!

that happened for my birthday..... my roommates bought me a fish and from the looks of it when i got it, it was being attacked in the tank it was in. Thankfully his tail grew back really quickly and I don't think I could have more of a happier fish. I love it, but I guess it is a hit or miss.

Awesome! Do you get to see their huge facility? That place looks cool from the videos I've seen.

Gift cards only unless it's a specific piece of equipment or coral I've picked out.

I had some neighbors several years ago went to the beach in Florida. The kids collected several gifts for me and my saltwater tank! Not a good thing.

Yep, I included the link for where to buy the controller I want for my Christmas list. I would never ask for livestock though.

Ugh. Our Maid's husband brought me home a HUGE hermit crab from the beach and asked to put it in my nano. I was like "I can't put him in there."

I guess he didn't understand me so he left it sitting in a jar on a shelf in our front room and I never saw it. I smelled it days later, it was terrible.

My brother used to go get little white hermits from the beach...tube anemones...and olive snails...

He isn't in the hobby anymore....those olive snails really messed up the critters in his sand bed (and then starved to death themselves).

I'm lucky enough to have a wife that is into the tank as much as I am. I know that if she picks out a livestock "gift" it will be good. The only thing I would not want her to buy for me is equipment (unless it was something I specifically picked out).

This is one thing I've given up on. Last two years for both my birthday and christmas I've asked for nothing but items for the tank. Not once single time have I received something even remotely close.

Better the way my wife does it with me,

She goes with me and lets me pick it out.

That would work!

You know..my wife got me back into the hobby that I swore to be done with forever...she said she'd start buying coral with me.... So far (after a year) she has bought 1 frag of frogspawn for $20..... I can't even tell you how many thousands I've spent within the year :P
