My two skunk clowns always seem to try and attack my hand if I come anywhere close to the nem. They don't bite thank god, but they will sit there and swat their tail fins at me. Basically slapping me in the hand or arm with their fins. I find it funny but they are not biting me. I have heard of other people's clowns biting them and some even drawing blood. Glad mine dont.....

Yes, clowns are VERY territorial. They will nip and slap.

I have bred clowns about 10 years ago and the large females could draw blood.

Yeah, I got a Black and White one named Bo-Bo. Now it's Bo-Bo the Killer Clown!

Get em Killer!
Need a little sign on the tank
The dog will bark but the clown will bite!

See my fiance's tank has two fake percs. They use to attack when they had an nem. Now you can almost pet them when they want to be fed. Mine you can't come ear them and nem.

I never experienced it with a clarkii, but my cousin who did maintenance used to get bitten by a tomato clown all the time, and it drew blood.

I take my clowns out of my tank and bite them once a week to show whos boss.

haha

Yes, I have seen clowns get pretty crazy, going for blood isnt uncommon when you are in their space.

Exactly, I have two pairs of clowns in my tank. One PSC pair and one perc or whatever. The PSC pair hosts a name and the female is quick to attack relentlessly. The other pair is free swimming and practically cuddle with my hand when it's in the tank.

My black saddlebacks have no intersest in attacking anyone or anything that comes near their blue carpet. Perhaps it's because they know their carpet will swallow anything that dares touch it ;)

Mine attack me nearly every time i put my hands in the tank (a pair in all 5 larger systems). Even with the ocellaris, I jump every time, even though it seldom actually hurts. My 12 year old maroon never broke the skin (she died in a move a few years ago...), but my wife's nealry 10 year old Cinnamon has. Nothing like some attitude:).

I feel lucky that my wight cap laucokronis dont touch me at all. All my other clowns in the past have all went after my hand when I get close to them.

Anyone here old enough to have seen a bad BobCat Goldthwaite movie called Shakes the Clown from the mid 80's? If not, his tag line may be what all of your clowns are saying to you everytime they deal with you. He didn't like people, either;). Shakes seemed the perfect name for a clownfish:D.

I had a gold stripe maroon clown that was very aggressive and drew blood on several occasions! Luckily, my current pair of onyx clowns seem know not to bite the hand that feeds them....for now ;)

maroon are def the worst
my old pair use to attact me everytime i scraped the glass. the female was so bad that if i moved a rock or coral anywhere within 2feet of her and her nem she would bash it till it got knocked off - use to p@@s me off to no end. i had to finally get rid of them when she got to be the size of a small panfish :)
my new oscellaris still attact me but at least they are too small to draw blood

kraylen thats the funniest thing i've read in a while - i may have to try the biting back thing

I found that a well timed thump would give Shakes a piece of her own medicine. Problem is that her personality really seemed to change after I thumped her the first time...
