Do your neighbors know?

I have wondered the same thing about my house. When the back door is open you can really see the blue glow and the led lights hanging over my frag tanks. We live right in the middle of a small town. I pulled my neighbor aside and told her i grow coral and told her she is more than welcome to come over and see my tanks.

Plants grow better in purple light vs blue. So as long as they don't see my sump light which is counter to my day lamps, I don't think anyone will be calling the cops.

I work at a local high school and some students live in my neighborhood. When they learn that my wife and I life in the neighborhood they will ask "how far from the pot house do you live?" We then tell them that is our house and those are reef tank lights...

You can see mine from the front windows as well. I'm going to guess they have more questions as to why every two weeks I dump a trashcan with some water out the front driveway lol. not to mention when i was cleaning out the two 55 gal drums before everything was up and running.

I think they know I'm growing something but nothing that I shouldn't be. They all know my wife is a Probation Officer for the local county. Lol
But here's a picture from this morning.

We live in the country, but on a main road. My closest neighbors, who are a half mile away know about the aquariums. The guy who farms my farmland says people ask him all the time what I have going on with all the blue lights. I did have a sheriff stop one day to ask me if I had seen anything "suspicious" going on in the area. The whole time he was trying to look over my shoulder into the house. I'm 6'2, he was maybe 5'10 and standing on a step that is 4 inches lower than the floor I was standing on. My wife was doing all she could not to laugh as he was trying to look around and over me to see into the house. I invited him in and we chatted for almost a half hour about the tanks and different things. Nice guy.

Basement window changes from blue to purple.. I'm sure they would be suspicious, however you can see the tank clear as day from the street when the blinds are open haha.

Plus.. the kids looovvveee the tank when trick-or-treating at the door.

I think cheech and Chong live here

You can see my lights indirectly through the front door. No one can see the tank from the front of the house...but when the rear blinds are open, my neighbors can see the tank. I've never had any law enforcement show up about the tank.

The funny thing is that my blue lights go way purple when the actinic T5s come on around 7PM. Still, no one's asked me anything. A couple of neighbors know I have a reef tank, and one, who's a marine biologist, tank sits for me during summer vacations.

I've walked all through my subdivision and have not seen any other houses that look like they may have a reef tank inside :( Looks like I'm the only one!

We should have a contest on who can photograph the most "blue rooms" in their state/city/travels. I had a house down the street from that use to have a "blue room" but they moved.

Anyone that really grows pot knows grow lights aren't blue. Heck, orchid growers know this too. :p

Our house is dark blue in color, plus in the winter our Christmas lights are blue with 4 blue flood lights pointed at the house. It's basically a giant blue beacon for 4 months. The reef is plainly visible through the front window of the house though, so anyone remotely curious will know what the glow is.

When visiting a tank at one of my clients' places in a condo, I was making small talk with a young lady in the elevator. She was asking about fish tanks. We got off on the same floor, and when I stopped to unlock the door she said, "Oh, black light guy." So I think people just think it's black lights most of the time, and "fish tank" doesn't even go on the radar. Most people think of a freshwater tank with white lights when they're thinking of a fish tank anyway.

My house was worse before I added blackout blinds to that room. Can still see the glowing blue very clearly from the large window in the foyer above the front door. I was more surprised no one called the cops on Memorial Day as it was super hot out and I was wearing long sleeve shirt, pants, respirator mask, and eye protection while giving my Pukani rock a muriatic acid bath. My wife was taking pictures laughing as the people who were walking their dogs would cross the street and point at me.

The blue light shining through windows shouldn't attract cops. I've seen some pretty massive grow operations and there definitely wasn't any deep blue lights they're more on the red side

Well does it matter anymore for Californians? I think it's legal now here. I still don't smoke. I don't drink either due to not wanting to encourage my family member that has a problem..

But the plant is really interesting in that it's the only plant that can remove radiation from water when growing. And you can make biodegradable plastics from it.
