No, they are not NO3 export system. They have nothing to do with NO3 or PO4. btw I dont think it is good idea to use ZeoStart3 as carbon source in non Zeo system. There are many other carbon sources with well known ingredients vodka, vinegar, NOPOX, etc.
I used to use start as a carbon source for many months after I stopped with the zeo system, just to finish the bottle and never saw any ill effects other than a reduction of nutrients.

As far as I'm concerned it is just a VS mix and made my own after I ran out!

Yes, of course if you have it already is wise to use it, my intention was to say that there are many other ways to dose containing organic carbon which are cheaper and with well known ingredients.

VS stands for vodka-sugar or vinegar-sugar? I would love to know more about your recipe.

Actually, having looked back it was vinegar-sugar (glucose).

To every 250 ml of white vinegar (5% acid), I added 15 ml of glucose and mixed well.

What is the practical advantage of binding some ammonia this way? Reduced nitrate? Isn't the organic carbon dosing in the zeovit system easily able to accomplish that anyway?
Activated carbon will not absorb ammonia ...

Activated Carbon will not absorb ammonia ,pretty much just dissolved solids...

Never claimed it did. Why do you want to bind ammonia or think that useful?

I mentioned organic carbon dosing, which I do expect takes up ammonia just as macro algae also do.

Sorry buddy your dead on accurate ,apologize for misreading. Also I might want to mention zeolite even the marine vertion's will do nothing in your salheater tanks it's just safe to use if he'll bent on trying . Marinelands made that comment on Amazon questions and answers .
