Does a 1 Degree Difference Matter When Adding/Transfering a Fish?

I don’t acclimate hardly anything beyond temp

I float for 10-15 minutes and put it in

I would only acclimate a cucumber or clam due to how sensitive they are

I quit doing corals and fish 6 years ago and have noticed they take to the tank better faster if I just drop them in

You didn’t say how long the bag was outside, you said the outside was 15° And the inside of the car was 53°, I’m a slow walker… either way the temp would not suddenly change.

That surely must have answered your ‘explain’ post?
Wouldn't the water in the bag be 77-80 ish when you get it from the LFS? How would the water in the bag raise if it's 15 outside and 53 in the car?

It's an EPIPHANY....

Unless I parked 5 miles away from the LFS the walk to the car would be roughly 30 seconds.

Must like this thread, this is all a ridiculous waste of time

I feared that wouldn’t be explanation enough for you.

30 seconds or 1 hour the temp change would be gradual not sudden.

One question, are you ‘suddenly’ out or was it ‘gradual’ :D

I'd be curious to know what temperate difference would be an issue. Without any facts, I wouldn't think 1 degree would affect the fish. How about 3 degrees if going from cooler to warmer?

I struggle at times with temp differences between QT and DT since they're completely independent systems and no two heater is perfectly matched. I'll have 3-4 degree differences so it becomes a PIA to bag my own fish from QT and float the bag in DT. This is mostly a concern about the accidently leak of QT copper water into DT during the float process.

I use an inexpensive digital cooking thermometer from Amazon to make sure they are the same temperature,

Seems some are way over thinking this. A 1 degree temp swing is absolutely irrelevant, it will make no difference in the health of the fish. I honestly have no idea how much of a sudden temp swing it would take to have a fish die but it would definitely be in double figures. I get my fish and corals from a couple great lfs's and all I do when I get home is open the bag and toss the livestock in.
