I'm looking to add another tang to a 220 gal reef. I currently have 5 tangs. The three bullies of the tank is a powder blue and 2 yellow tangs. Any recommendations which one to purchase?

What type of tang are you willing to add?

I had a purple and yellow tang that went through TTM and QT without any problems.
I put them in the DT and chaos ensued. The purple tang immediately started chasing and thrashing the yellow tang until its fins were all cut up and it was cowering on the bottom in the corner.

So, I put the yellow tang back in QT. Then someone gave me a smaller yellow tang.
Those 2 went through TTM and QT together.
Now the purple tang has been established for almost 8 weeks and rules the DT.

I placed the 2 yellow tangs in an acclimation box in the DT.
After a week the purple tang stopped trying to chew, slice or bump the box and basically ignored the newcomers.

They've all been peaceful ever since, except the purple tang still owns the "cave", nobody sleeps in the cave except for the boss.

So yes, the box can work. Every situation is different, but it's worth a try.

Definitely worth a try. I built a big one a few years ago and it's 50:50. Sometimes it does help to diffuse aggression, but other times the resident fish ignore the newcomer in the box only to beat the stuffing out of it upon release. It's almost like the fish are swimming around going 'we're cool, let 'im out' and then 'hammer time'.

I have used one in the past and it worked awesome. I am actually going to sell a beautiful one since I am out of the hobby, its like 15x6x6 probably in size with suction cups and a lid, cant remember which company sold it but its well built. PM me if interested

They work to adjust new fish to a tank, without aggression from previous tank mates.

The key is to give them a chance to get strong and adjust before letting them out so they have a chance to defend themselves if needed.

Like someone mentioned some fish are just plain bullies and wait. But more times than not it works.

Don't see any boxes available. Will any be available soon?

Mixed bag. Sometimes it works, other times not. My tangs have mostly gotten used to it, so they leave the newcomer alone while in the box then beat the living crap out of it once released.
