The gentleman that sold it to me said it was a montipora...I’ve only purchased a handful of corals so far so i know very little. It came out of the 3 for $30 tank and when I bought it was completely covered in neon green, so much that it was hard to see individual polyps. I also bought some zoas that day, so when I came home I dipped my new corals and while they were acclimating I watched a couple YouTube vids where guys dip their zoas in peroxide so I gave that a try. Unfortunately I also dipped the monti as well and I could see immediately after that I had done some harm to the little thing. Originally only about 5 polyps survived but after 3 weeks

it seems to be coming back strong with new growth. Anyways, excuse my ignorance, but does it look like a montipora? Or something else? I would be happy to know what it’s called if anyone has one or can identify it.

Yeah, from what I’ve seen of montipora, it didn’t look like it to me either. Well, I guess time will tell thanks for the input! Another reef store said possibly cyphastrea as well.

Hey guys, any new ideas, on this the polyps have developed a cool orange fringe with tiny tentacles

Nice looking coral. But certainly not a montipora. It could be a cyphastra but it doesn’t look quite right.

Thanks, I’ll post another pic in a few weeks

It’s a green chalice. I’ve got the same coral. At first was bright green all over. After a while the fluorescent green retreated and only the polyps are bright green now. I’ve noticed the polyps closer to the light turn orange. While the shaded ones stay green. They are a very hardy coral. Will uptake calcium and Alk to grow.

Do you dose that stuff or are weekly water changes enough? It seems to be completing back pretty fast and strong. I have a 24 gal and I’m changing 5 gal weekly with Red Sea coral pro.

I dose kalkwasser via dosing pump to maintain Ca/Kh for my 10 gal. Only perform water changes about once per month. Weekly water changes could work depending on your tanks demands, but for maximum stability (less swings) dosing regularly is best practice.

I happened to be at a shop today and the owner had a couple pieces of this. Fire Lamellosa! It was quite the “aha!” Moment. Anyway I thought I’d follow up for anyone who was interested. He says He hadn’t seen any for about 10 years so it’s fairly rare.

Yeah that’s mine in the pic

Oh nice. Though that was a pic from LFS, its come a long way. Looks good
Thanks a lot. It really started to take off after I installed a second AI Prime about a month ago
