Does anyone do their aqua scaping using primarily large base rocks?

Just wondering if I am a lone oddball. I ended up with a lot of LARGE base rock. When I say large, I mean single pieces weighing 40lbs and nearly the size of a beach ball.

I broke up several pieces into smaller, more traditional sizes, but for most of my aqua scaping, I decided to leave the pieces mostly intact. I trimmed enough rock away so that they would fit into my tank comfortably, then I chiseled away the rock to make caves and rock formations.

So basically, instead of BUILDING my formations from several rocks, I CARVED out my formations from single pieces if rock. Does anyone else do this? It's a lot of work, but I feel like you end up with a super stable structure, as it's all limited to just a few large, individual rocks.

To be honest, I kind of just use whatever I have available at that time. If I have larger, heavier rock, then I do start with those at the bottom, sometimes carving them out to fit my aquascape. As you stated, forms a better base.

Any pictures?

He's a quicky. Just started cycling this tank. My left side is a little naked, preparing some more rock to fill it out.

The rock on the left is a single 40lb rock. The structure on the right is two 40lb rocks, with the arch consisting of a few 5lb rocks.

Not overly elegant, but I like it. I will take bitter pictures once there is something good to show.

Just as another example, I started off with two large base rocks and built up from there. The two "large base rocks" are solid. This is a picture of the first few days of having water in the tank. Although the aquascape is much different now, this worked well for 2 1/2 or so years.

The one drawback, if any, is it makes it more difficult to re-escape or remove a rock when/if necessary or needed.
