Planning for my conversion to a bowfront 46g. I am going to drill the back of the tank for overflows and returns. What potential benefits/shortcomings would I be looking at if I drill for 1" threaded bulkheads to an upturned 90 with strainer? To eliminate noise, I was going to put a tee on the backside of the bulkhead, cap the top of the tee, drill cap for airline tubing.

For a return I was thinking of using a lock line wye in the center of the tank and a variable speed DC pump, like a diablo. My goal is to have enough return flow to eliminate the need for ugly, expensive power heads.

I would think of going with either a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 drain but everything else sounds good with what u want to do
