Hey guys I am relativley knew to the aquarium scene and over the past couple of days I have started to notice my orange back angel fish “fading” in colour. I have done some research and I believe it could possibly be velvet. But if anyone could help with a diagnosis that would be extremely appreciated.

As you can see in the first picture he is rubbing up against the old snail shell, so something is clearly bothering him. This morning I also noticed my Valantini Saddle puffer rubbing up against the rock as well, but he does not have any visible signs on him. What does everyone think, and what should I do??

Any other symptoms like swimming into flow of powerhead, any spots on fish? Can you get a picture that is more of a close up?

I havent noticed any spots or anything to unusual other then the fading of colour. He also seems to want to be around the other fish more which is weird because that behaviour is quite new. Ill try to get a closer picture but he is very shy so it is tough for me to get super close to him.

Poor nutrition/stress , what are you feeding ? Is the fish getting bullied ? , kinda like how some of us turn pale when we are sick. He/she is swimming around other fish looking for food more than likely. Fish are picky eaters sometimes...

I havent noticed any bulling going on if anything when I bought him he was a bit aggressive towards others. Right now im feeding them a brine shrimp blend that was recommended to me by the shop owner I bought him from.

I do through in some spirulina flakes for my lawnmower blenny when I dont see much algae around the tank. I was told thats all I should need but if you have any suggestions or recommendations it would be greatly appreciated.

One thing I think a lot of us forget is that most of these fish are wild caught , they eat multiple stuff in the wild. I would suggest you buy fish eggs , or buy pellets. Soak any food you feed the tank in garlic, selcon or any other food enhancer. They are all high in fatty acids and B vitamins which give the fish energy.

Thank you, I will definitely look into this. But do you think that melnutrition would cause the fish to itch and rub against the rock?

Definitely!, I don’t quarantine my fish , not recommended but my personal choice. I believe a well balanced diet keeps fish happy and healthy. It’s not fair just to feed a fish flakes for the rest of its life. A lot of people do a lot of overthinking when keeping fish. Think of the fish as a human being, we both have the same parts on the inside for the most part. If you eat junk all day you feel like crap and have health problems. It’s the same with fish, feed them a good varied balance diet and you shouldn’t have any problems. I’ve never had ick, velvet or any other crazy fish disease and I’ve never quarantined it’s a waste of time to me. Just my 2 cents lol

That would be analogous if the people in question were covered in tens of thousands of leaches or other bloodsucking parasites, with a large portion of those in their lungs making it difficult to breathe after being prisoners of war for a few months and relocated.

I would hope none of us buy a fish in that bad of a shape or let our fishy friends get that bad.
