Legitimately looks like some creepy butt alien egg with spikes on it, like Godzilla is about to burst outta that thing.

I have no idea, I can’t even tell if it’s part of the rock because I’m having algae issues at the moment. Had a bit of a green hue to it.

Is it moving?

If you shine a bright light on it does it close? I was thinking the same
I took the picture with the flash on, it didn’t seem to react in any way. I don’t particularly want to go poking and prodding it but I will if I know what to look out for lol

bivalve is a type of clam, right?

Im seeing so many new creatures recently and I haven’t added anything in months lol, just a few hermits

Yes to the some type of clam or related (is my best guess) not 100% certain though at all

Ocean rocks? Might be a bivalve. Mine have appeared months after putting the rocks in. Try watching it after feeding phyto to the tank to see if it opens up and sends out it's filters. I think chiton would be more oval shaped without the ridges.

A clam is a type of bivalve (so are oysters, mussels, scallops, etc.). When they are 'startled', they typically clamp their shell together (like two doors closing together). They have rudimentary eyes, so they'll 'startle' at sudden lights/shadows. Depending on the size of the bivalve and where their mantle (the part with the eyes that opens and closes) is facing, you might not be able to see much of a reaction. If it's dead, you won't see any reaction (a lot of bivalves don't usually do well in our aquariums, so there is a chance it may be dead, but others do fine).

JojosReef's suggestion above is good too. The siphon it would feed with might not be hugely noticeable, but, again, assuming it's alive, you should be able to see some sort of opening/closing response.

Side note: If you ever want to see something creepy look up images on google of 'scallop eyes' lol
