This is the best / clearest pic I could get. Does anyone know what that is growing between the zoas?

More white and I tried to zoom in but it’s still not really clear.

it’s all over the plug in between the zoas.

Hard to tell from the pics but maybe Xenia but in white light the coloration looks more like aiptasia.

More along the lines of cloves.. im not sure what other softy mats out like that. They might win the turf war against the zoas.

ok. Does it look like I could safely remove the zoas or is it best to trash it all together.

depending on what it is, how would I go about removing cloves or is it even possible?

If possible, you can use tweezers to pry the mat of the polyps off the frag.

Edit: leave the zoas, and get off the other coral.

I had a Zoa plug with cloves and they were definitely crowding out the Zoa polyps.

I pulled the frag plug and carefully removed the clove polyps with tweezers. The Zoa polyps closed up for a week, but recovered nicely.

make sure you get all of them.
