Does anyone run a fluidized bed on their reef ?

I run a fluidized bed with GFO to remove phosphorus. If my numbers get too low I take it offline to keep some nutrients in the tank. After it has sat for awhile I have to remember when I start it back up to purge the line because it can get pretty rank inside with H2S after the circulation is stopped.

Long way to say that a fluidized bed is a good filter but it might not be the best during a restart after a long power outage. A canister creates an environment that can go anoxic quicker than a shallow sand bed in a tank, perhaps.

(Edit:) And I'm not trying to be negative, just thinking and hopefully helpful with what I've written

For clarification, RK2 fluidized bed filter........sand filter

they work too good you gotta have a little bit of that good stuff in there

Yeah allot of reefers run single stage fluidized bed reactors on their reefs. I run several from manifold on return. Very effective and highly recommend.

I run a few different fluidized bed media reactors, though always as a way to prevent media clogging. I’ve never run something designed to trap particulates though. Not sure how well it would work.
