I’m buying plumbing for my new build. Are the gate valves and ball valves sold on flexpvc.com safe for use in reef tanks? They’re considerably cheaper than the spears valves. cheaper would be nice but not if they’re not marine safe.

They will all be fine for plumbing your reef. The reason for the cost difference is the quality and longevity of the valves themselves. Spears valves can be taken apart and you can replace prettymuch everything inside them. Cheaper ones, nope, you need to toss and replace.

Some of those super cheap ball valves become next to impossible to close or open after a rather short period of time....

How much longer are you planning to be in the hobby? I have bought a bunch of stuff from them. The flex PVC is awesome but those ball valves are garbage. Tried a few and most ended up leaking. I replaced them all with spears true union valves figuring I'd save money in the longer term. A hard pass from me ......

I have not tried their gate valves since I could not tell for sure that they were metal free.

I’ve used Flex PVC to find unique items like the 32mm to 1” adapters and Y adapters. Never bought valves from them.
